The human resource assistant is responsible for performing HR-related duties and works closely with senior HR management in supporting multiple aspects of the business. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: safety, payroll, time-off, training, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, and employment law compliance.
Essential Functions
Recruiting
• Conducts recruitment effort for all personnel, oversees the background check process; conducts new-employee orientations, and writes and places advertisements.
General HR duties
• Oversees driver & mechanic payroll including entry, verification, and distribution)
• Prepares data for fuel tax reporting.
• Creates and distributes company newsletters and other communications.
• Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual.
• Handles employee relations and exit interviewing.
• Participates in HR ongoing training and seminars.
• Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the company and services performed.
• Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
• Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
Safety
• Plans and attend the biannual safety meetings.
• Participates in the Safety Review Board processes
• Completes other duties as assigned.
• Ability to maintain organization and focus when facing multiple requests and changing priorities
• Ability to use critical and logical thinking in a high-pressure environment
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and ensure completion of tasks in an effective and satisfactory manner
• Strong knowledge in Microsoft suite of tools
• Good customer service skills (for both recruiting and interacting with drivers/mechanics)
