Mumbai sees DOP price drop
Indian Petrochem analysts have reported a cut in Dioctyl Phthalate (DOP) prices in the Mumbai market. On Oct 13, 2025, the price of Dioctyl Phthalate (DOP) in Mumbai eased from Rs.116/kg to Rs.115/kg, marking a Re.1/kg decline. Dioctyl phthalate (DOP), a commonly used plasticizer, is synthesized from phthalic anhydride and 2-ethylhexanol. Sulfuric acid is typically used as a catalyst during the esterification process. The reaction can be carried out in a liquid phase, either directly or with a monoester intermediate stage. Dioctyl phthalate (DOP) is primarily used as a plasticizer in the production of flexible PVC products, making them more flexible and durable. Beyond that, it has various other applications, including as a dielectric and hydraulic fluid, a solvent, and in coatings, adhesives, and some medical devices.
