Call records will now be stored in anonymized format for data protection | |
To enhance the protection of consumer data and mitigate misuse in the event of network security breaches, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will instruct telecom operators to store subscribers’ call data records (CDR) in an anonymized format. This initiative involves assigning specific encrypted codes to replace the actual numbers associated with incoming and outgoing calls. In cases where subscribers require access to their CDRs, telecom operators will decrypt the codes and provide detailed billing information. CDRs comprise comprehensive records of telephone calls passing through the network, excluding call content, and differ from legal interception processes already established for security purposes.
