Virginia Tech Begins Study on Construction Worker Helmet Safety | |
Virginia Tech’s Helmet Lab has embarked on a new study aimed at evaluating safety helmets specifically designed for construction workers. This initiative comes in response to the federal government’s recent recommendation that construction workers should opt for safety helmets over traditional hard hats. The rationale behind this recommendation is that hard hats often lack chin straps and can easily slip off during falls, potentially leading to severe injuries. Despite this recommendation, there is a notable gap in research regarding the effectiveness of different safety helmets. To address this, Virginia Tech’s Helmet Lab has partnered with several construction industry organizations, including the John R. The goal is to gather objective data that can help contractors across the country make informed decisions when purchasing safety helmets.
