Truly important!

What is more important?

Matthew 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

We are to seek the things of God as a priority over the things of the world. Primarily, it means we are to seek the salvation that is inherent in the kingdom of God because it is of greater value than all the world’s riches. Does this mean that we should neglect the reasonable and daily duties that help sustain our lives? Certainly not. But for the Christian, there should be a difference in attitude toward them. If we are taking care of God’s business as a priority—seeking His salvation, living in obedience to Him, and sharing the good news of the kingdom with others—then He will take care of our business as He promised. If you accept that arrangement, where is worrying?

Thousands lose their souls for the most trifling gain, or the most worthless indulgence, nay, often from mere sloth and negligence. Whatever is the object for which men forsake Christ, that is the price at which Satan buys their souls. Yet one soul is worth more than all the world. This is Christ's judgment upon the matter; he knew the price of souls, for he redeemed them; nor would he underrate the world, for he made it. No one can “purchase” mercy for his perishing soul. Let us then learn rightly to value our souls, and Christ as the only Saviour of them. (This is part of Matthew Henry's commentary on Matthew 16:28, along with some of my words).

My thoughts!

The things that are more important are spelled out above. Am I saying family, job, etc. are not important? No way. I have feelings and needs just like every other human. I know and feel love, I feel pain (physical and internal; mine and others), I feel shame, I feel disappointment among the many emotions we have been given. I have the exact same emotions everyone else has. God made us, He gave us those emotions, they have a purpose. He knows exactly what we feel, need and think; He knows our hearts. There are many, but, see the few following verses: 1 Samuel 16:7; Job 42:2; Psalm 44:21, 94:11, 139:4; Proverbs 21:2; Jeremiah 17:10; Acts 1:24, 15:8. Trying to stay focused on what is more important is hard, to say the least. It is tough, but possible. I try not to focus on my emotions only, ignoring what is more important. I don't always succeed, but I keep trying. I try to focus on what is more important; I try to focus on verses like Matthew 6:33. Take your foot off the gas pedal; be patient; don't rush it; life will still happen. Try to learn what is more important through personal study of His word. God will take care of us.
