The first phase of the Defence Oath Ceremony 2025 was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 22 May. During this, President Draupadi Murmu awarded four posthumous medals to personnel of the Indian Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and State/UT Police. Among the military personnel honoured with the Shaurya Chakra, four are also from the Indian Air Force, whose stories of heroism are an inspiration to the youth. Wing Commander Vernon Desmond Keane was awarded the prestigious 'Air Defence Award' for his outstanding efforts in safely landing a fighter aircraft after the oil system suddenly failed during flight and both engines stopped.  | |
