Carbendazim prices move up in Mumbai

Carbendazim, a systemic fungicide widely used in India’s crop protection segment, has registered an uptick in the Mumbai market today. As of October 13, 2025, the price of imported intact material has risen from Rs. 432/kg to Rs. 435/kg, marking a Rs. 3/kg increase. While the adjustment appears modest, such movements often signal shifting dynamics within the agrochemical value chain.
Demand-Side Drivers:
Late monsoon showers across northern India have supported fungicide application cycles in cereals, pulses, and oilseeds. Dealers report stronger farmer stocking in paddy and soybean belts, with procurement activity picking up in anticipation of extended spraying rounds. Demand has been firm enough to absorb inflows more effectively than in western markets.
Supply Chain Dynamics:
Importers highlight that although shipments from China remain steady, active buying in northern belts has tightened local availability. Intact cargoes have gained a slight premium in Delhi, with distributors noting faster stock turnover compared to other regions.
Competitive Positioning:
The Rs. 3/kg rise also reflects more aggressive procurement from large distributors, who are replenishing inventories ahead of the rabi preparation cycle. Smaller players, facing reduced margins, have been unable to resist the firming trend, allowing prices for key formulations such as Carbendazim 50% WP and 46.27% SC to move higher.
Regulatory and Substitution Backdrop:
Although Carbendazim remains a core fungicide, ongoing EU restrictions and discussions around tighter Indian regulation of benzimidazoles remain an overhang. For now, however, stable supply and improving regional demand are setting the tone, outweighing regulatory uncertainties.
CAGR Outlook:
The global fungicide market, where Carbendazim remains a key benzimidazole-based product, is projected to grow at a CAGR of 4–5% between 2024 and 2029, driven by rising food security needs, pest resistance management, and expanding crop protection investments.
In India, growth is expected to be stronger, at around 6–7% CAGR over the same period, supported by rising demand for high-yield crops, government-backed agri-initiatives, and increased adoption of crop protection chemicals in cereals, pulses, and horticulture.
